Climbing
UBES go climbing every Wednesday afternoon, as well as pretty much anytime when the weather is good! In the summer we go outdoors in the gorge, but when its cold and wet we go to Bristol's indoor wall. There are many opportunities to climb during the week, someone's always organising a trip to the gorge or Goblin Coombe. Post a message on the forums to get involved!
At the start of the year we normally run introductory climbing sessions specifically designed to teach beginners the basics of learning to climb!
Climbing @ Undercover Rock
Undercover Rock is the name of our climbing wall, and it is located inside a church. If you want to find out more about the climbing wall you can have a look at our Climbing Wall page.
Times, Dates and Travel
We meet at 1pm outside Waterstones on Tyndall Avenue (between the Arts & Social Sciences Library and the Sports Centre) and walk down as a group. The route is a bit complex, but you are welcome to meet us there. Have a look at the map for the easiest route there. Climbing is from 2pm until about 5pm or until you get hungry/tired.
Kit
You will need to bring:
- Loose clothes
- Trainers or climbing shoes
You will also need a harness, but you can borrow one off the society or hire one there (first option is the cheaper option - free!!). The society also has lead ropes for your use.
Cost
To join the wall costs a one off fee of £1, which you can do when you are competent enough to go it alone. Each climbing session is £5 (paid to the wall) at off-peak times (this includes Wednesday afternoons when we climb) and £6.50 at peak times (check the website for the latest times details). The society will teach you and loan you kit completely for free remember!
