UBES Summer Adventures

Some choose to spend their summers working, others at festivals or getting pissed at home. Those in UBES, however, manage to combine all of these with a whole host of trips around the UK, Europe, and beyond!

After most of us spent June avoiding revision by climbing and bouldering in the gorge, the summer kicked off in style with the club trip to Slovenia. Mountains, lakes, crags, via ferrata and pivo aplenty, Eleri has written a cracking write-up which you can read.

So where else did we get to?

Out in the Alps, Neil, Dave10 and Tash ticked off some Alpine peaks in Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Massif (Aguille Du Tour and others). Caroline and Dave6 went to the Ecrins for a couple of weeks of adventures. Doug also teamed up with Dave for a few days of action in Lundy. George, Dave9, L1 and Eleri had two days of baking hot bouldering in Font, Paris too.

Vicky, Stern Anne and Ella spent the summer in the peaks and lakes (singular) of the Austrian Alps near Innsbruck with muchos UBES-quality meat after which they met up with Tash and Neil, fresh from their Alpine adventures.

Closer to home, Three Cliff Bay in the Gower played host to the climbing exploits of Liz, Tara, Ewan, Joe and James. Liz ticked off her first lead and seconded her first E1.

In the UK mountains, a pod of Ls (1&2) went scrambling and walking in the Lakes with Eleri and then George and L1 went wild camping in the dark halfway up Snowdon (all planned). Matthew & Sarah did a weekend in the Lakes around Red Pike and then Crinkle Crags/Bowfell, but since this wasn’t enough they drove to the Yorkshire Dales on the Monday to tick off the 3 peaks in 10.5 hours.

In other news, Matt threw up out of Eleri’s window, and Eddie built a home made wind turbine in his garage. He had a high shelf to keep the goats from playing with his power tools so often needed to climb onto his stool to reach the shelf. Cool.
