All About UBES!

UBES are probably the largest outoors society at Bristol Uni, and run regular trips hiking, scrambling, climbing and drinking all around the UK. These are weekend trips and longer summer expeditions and we encourage our members to organise their own as well. (check out Calendar for details). We go to a wide range of locations and in one year we can get to the Lakes, Peaks, Yorkshire Dales, Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons, Scotland, Spain, Canada and the Dolomites! During these weekends we climb, walk, have bonfires and drink (not necessarily in that order), among other things.

Climbing

Every Wednesday afternoon we climb either at Bristol's Undercover Rock Climbing Centre, or when it's sunny in the Gorge. Society members also climb at many other times in the week and often head over to Goblin Coombe or further afield. We often run dedicated climbing trips, normally to the Peaks, in the second term. Remember, UBES welcomes all abilities and there's always something to suit everybody, whether you're a very experienced climber or a complete novice, and the weekly wall sessions are a great way for anybody to improve and learn.

If you're a novice climber, and would like to have a go, either e-mail the committee or post up on the forum, there's almost always somebody to help out and teach you!

Walking

Walking is pretty simple really, and we welcome all abilities! Whatever the trip there's normally something to cater for you as generally a few walks of varying degrees of extreme-ness will set off at once. Whether you fancy donning your thermals, breaking out the ice axe and hiking off up a Scottish mountain in the depths of winter, or you fancy a more gentle scenic walk through the valleys of Snowdonia in spring, UBES caters for you.

Socials!

Wednesday night is Highbury night! Meet at around 9ish to drink, sign up for weekends and catch up on the week's gossip. Numerous other social events are also organised throughout the year, including a great Pancake Party (with multicoloured pancakes), House Parties, Pub Crawls and the most epic annual Mendips event.

What's Next...

This society offers both walking and climbing, but you don't have to do both. Many members only focus on one activity, indeed, you can join just for a laugh and a drink, but this is also great opportunity to enjoy some more adventurous pursuits.
